What is a Self-Selected PIN?

Using a self-selected PIN allows you to complete your eFiling without sending any paper documents to the IRS!

At the end of the program you will be asked to enter a self-selected 5 digit number (PIN), in order to transmit your tax return. You choose a PIN number, (any 5 digits, but not all zeros) for this tax return. By signing your tax return with a self-selected PIN you will be able to efile your return without sending any paper to the IRS.

Additionally,
On the PIN screen, you’ll confirm your identity to the IRS by providing your prior year AGI (Adjusted Gross Income) OR the self-selected PIN from your paper copy of your previous year efiled return. If you don’t have your previous year tax return, obtain an Electronic Filing PIN HERE If you prefer to speak to someone, you can contact the IRS at 800-829-1040.

THE IRS WILL NOT ACCEPT YOUR RETURN IF THE PRIOR YEAR AGI OR PRIOR YEAR PIN YOU PROVIDE DOES NOT MATCH THEIR RECORDS.

A mismatch on this number is by far the most common reason for rejection of an eFiled return. A rejection will delay your refund, and require you to correct and resubmit your return.
